CLASSES

Whether you're a novice or experienced, we offer a full range of knitting and crochet classes and open knitting sessions at Strings & stitches. If you're stuck on a project or looking for new ideas, stop in and see us. Class projects will include knitting, crocheting, garment construction, pattern reading, basic socks, beginning lace, felting, fair isle knitting, entrelac, domino knitting, and so much more! Classes are available days, evenings, and weekends (see schedule), and are updated monthly. To register for a class, pease call us at 706-698-KNIT (5648). Individual instruction is also available, upon request, at our hourly rates of $10.00/hour.

Strings & Stitches Yarn Shoppe - November Classes

Well, here we are again, with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner.  I cannot believe the time has flown.  Fall has been short in the GA Mountains and it looks like another rain day here today.  Oh well, God knows what we need!

The shop is hopping and we have been getting lots of customers fitted out with projects for the months ahead and for gift ideas for the season.  It is a fun time of year, because I love giving!  It is always interesting to put together projects for others to do for their loved ones.  We only knit and crochet for those we love and the sharing of our needle arts is amazing!  You are my inspiration as you put together what you want to do for others.  Thanks so much for the community of stitchers in which we participate.

We have the best!

Many of you have been asking about our impending move of the shoppe to a new location.  Since the Chevrolet dealership has moved, we are negotiating with the current landlord for a new lease.  Depending on the outcome, we will know what we will be doing.  We will let you all know as soon as we finalize everything. 

Now, for the fun stuff:  our teachers are working on projects that we hope will inspire you.  But, before I give you the line-up of new classes, I would like to share some of the gift projects and personal projects our customers have done.  Charleen has been doing beautiful beaded, sequined scarves for gifts that have excited those who have seen them.  She has been combining fibers like silk, mohair, etc. and coming up with a great but simple scarf.  Come in and get inspired.  Bobbie and Vickie have been doing log cabin afghans. They have used tweeds, heathers and variegated yarns to enhance the pattern and make it truly an heirloom piece.  Vickie, Susan, Charles & Cathy have been doing twinned caps.  Many of you have been knitting the 3-button shawls in a wide assortment of solids and long-color repeat yarns.  Baby surprise sweaters are coming together everywhere..  Marge has done another of her beautiful intarsia designed sweaters. Wow...what talent in our midst!

And not to be left out...socks are still rocking!  Come in and see some of the excitement!

Classes...we just keep on going.

Beginning knit will continue in our regularly scheduled times. Wed 10:30-12noon    Kris

Four classes to learn cast-on, knit, purl and bind off.  You will make a scarf.                    Four classes        $30

Mondays will continue to be Karen's teaching day.  She will continue to offer Basic Socks from 10-12noon and pick a project from 2-4pm.  Each class will be $40 for 8 hours of instruction.  Socks will take you from a cuff down on one long circular needle. You must be able to knit, purl, SSK, and K2TOG before you take this class. In the pick a project class, you may pick what you want to do and get instruction on your project. Come talk with Karen about what you are interested in doing.

Tuesday will be Marge in the morning from 10-12noon and she will be teaching the wonderful wallaby! This is slated to be your favorite weekend sweatshirt replacement.  Done in sizes 2 kids up to Adults, you can vary more than just the size.  Marge did the hooded version in red. Come see this fun sweater and pick your worsted yarn to make it.  We have a lot from which to pick.           4 weeks    $40

Tuesday afternoon 2-4pm, Jane will be teaching her beautiful Entrelac felted purse.  Jane picked Ga red and black and the result was great.  Come see and make your decision.                        3 weeks    $30.

Thursday will be Kris's day at S&S.  She will teach knitting beyond the basics - increases, decreases and how to read a pattern during this months classes.  Also, Kris will include various cast-ons and bind-offs.  Kris brings her experience as a teacher and joy of knitting to her classes and you will be the beneficiary of her knowledge and enthusiasm.                      4 classes for $40

In the afternoon on Thursdays, Kris will be teaching the requested tutorial entrelac scarf class.  This class will give you the foundational knowledge of how to do entrelac.

3 classes for $30. 

Darlene will be teaching the Favre sweater from Kim Hargreaves in Denim from Rowan.  This is an adventure in cables and seed stitch.  Wonderful casual or dress cardigan. This class will be 1-3pm on Saturday afternoons, so come join Darlene.  This is an intermediate project.  4 classes for $40.  You must have your gauge done before class. So come in and get your materials for the class.

Vicky D. will be teaching two socks at once from toe up on Saturdays from 10-12noon.  She must have 2 or more students, so be sure and schedule ASAP.  4 classes $40. Call and confirm class before attending.

As usual, all patterns and yarns must be purchased at S&S for class projects.  Registrations will be good only if classes are paid for at time of registration.  24-hour notification of cancellation is required.  We have teachers that travel from out of town to teach.  Thanks for your consideration!  No store credit given on classes unattended and teachers will makeup classes at their discretion.
