CLASSES

Whether you're a novice or experienced, we offer a full range of knitting and crochet classes and open knitting sessions at Strings & Stitches. If you're stuck on a project or looking for new ideas, stop in and see us. Class projects will include knitting, crocheting, garment construction, pattern reading, basic socks, beginning lace, felting, fair isle knitting, entrelac, domino knitting, and so much more! Classes are available days, evenings, and weekends (see schedule), and are updated monthly. To register for a class, pease call us at 706-698-KNIT (5648). Individual instruction is also available, upon request, at our hourly rates of $10.00/hour.
Strings & Stitches January Schedule
Crayon Box Jacket will be offered again due to popular request. This unique and fun jacket is a colorful mix of textures and yarns. Jean will be teaching it again. See the attached picture and come into the shop to see the real jacket. The classes will be held on Thursday mornings from 10 to 12 noon starting Jan 10th and each Thursday thereafter for four weeks. The technique is mitered squares and increases your skills of picking up stitches, decreases, along with some general basic design elements. Come join Jean! $40
Beginning Knitting will be offered at several times throughout the month. In this class, the beginning knitter will learn to cast on stitches, Knit, Purl and bind off. It is a fun filled class. Come relaxed and expecting a good time. Classes will be held as follows: $20
6pm to 8pm Thurs evenings Jan 17th
1pm to 3pm Thursdays Jan 17th Jean
Beginning crochet will teach the student the foundation chain, single crochet, double crochet, and triple crochet. $20.
Mondays 1-3 pm:
Basic Socks will be taught with magic loop or circular needles. Students will be taught the basic anatomy of the sock and how to knit from the top down. We will work on worsted weight to speed up the knitting process. This will be done in 4 classes with clear knitting requirements for the student to complete between classes. This is a great technique that will increase your skills to be applied with hats, bags, and sweater sleeves. Come join us on Monday afternoons from 1pm to 3pm. Jan 21 & 28 $40
Noro Cashmere Island sweater will be taught by Jean. This great looking mock turtleneck sweater is made out of the Noro beautiful self striping yarn called Cashmere Island. You will enjoy the learning of this basic lace that will end in a cozy, warm sweater for casual or dress events. Come see the sample! $40
Tuesdays 10-12noon: January 22 & 29 Jean
Plymouth Shrug is being taught by our newest teacher Kay. Kay has knitted this fun basic garment for you beginning knitters for a first project or for you veterans looking for a quick fun project that is up to date and fashionable. Kay has done her garment in Alpaca boucle and it is yummy!! Come see and sign up for Kay’s class $30
Fridays 1-3pm: Jan 18 & 25 Kay
Entrelac Keltic afghan is being offered for you afghan knitters and students desiring to learn entrelac. This directional technique for knitting is fun and challenging. Not cut out to be done in front of the TV!!! We will be using Berroco Keltic yarns and their pattern. The yarn will change shading and we will also change yarns by row. Fun and you can mix colors to match your home. Come in and see the beginning of one of the afghans. $40
Wednesdays 10-12noon Jan 23 & 20 Karen
B4 Felted Bag is a wonderful novelty felted handbag that one of our customers brought us. It has bumps, bobbles, buttons and beading. Great way to us various colors and yarns. We have a finished bag on display, so come see! Felting, as you know, is the washing of wool in hot water and with the class, we felt on site.
