CLASSES

Whether you're a novice or experienced, we offer a full range of knitting and crochet classes and open knitting sessions at Strings & Stitches. If you're stuck on a project or looking for new ideas, stop in and see us. Class projects will include knitting, crocheting, garment construction, pattern reading, basic socks, beginning lace, felting, fair isle knitting, entrelac, domino knitting, and so much more! Classes are available days, evenings, and weekends (see schedule), and are updated monthly. To register for a class, pease call us at 706-698-KNIT (5648). Individual instruction is also available, upon request, at our hourly rates of $10.00/hour.

Strings & Stitches Yarn Shoppe

Easter is almost upon us! I can not believe that Spring is here and we are still planning for the year. As you may be aware, Stitches South will be in Atlanta in April. If any of you would like to go together, let us know. We will try to coordinate a group to go down on Sunday of the event.

We have just received the Sock Boot camp from SWTC today. This is a trunk show of some of their socks done in Tofutsies yarns. Drop by and see some of the excitement of Tofutsies, which is an antibacterial yarn blend that has beautiful colors. We will have copies of their patterns for a nominal print fee. The Sock Boot Camp will be in until April 15th. We will have a drawing for a door prize at the end of the event. So come on by and see the fun and excitement. This is also one of the yarns that our famous sock knitter, Charles, used in the Knit Outside the Box sock contest.

Where to start for the month...well, Vickie has finally gotten back into Ellijay and will be staying for a while. So, THE SAMPLER SHAWL has made it to the class schedule. Vickie will be teaching on Fridays the 5 lace pattern sampler shawl beginning 4/03 at 10-12noon. Come and join Vickie for this fun exploration in lace knitting. She will teach the pattern, a lifeline and its use in lace knitting, and instill in you the love of ALL things lace. This class will run for 4 weeks and will be $40.

Joining us this month as a beginning knit instructor is Darlene. Darlene will be teaching the Saturday morning BEGINNING KNITTING. This class will run for four weeks and will be from 10:30 to 12 noon starting 4/04. Darlene is from Marietta and has been teaching private knit lessons in that area for a number of years. Her love for knitting and people makes her a natural for beginning knitting. She will teach casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch and binding off. Kris will be teaching the Wed 10:30 to 12 noon beginning knit class starting 04/08 and Karen will be teaching the Thursday evening beginning knit class from 5:30-7pm. So come join in and learn the best skill for relaxation and creativity there is. $30 for all classes.

KNITTING BEYOND THE BASICS 101 is a revival of a class we started in 2007 and did not continue in our schedule. Kris is working hard on this class and it is the next class for the beginning knitter to take to build skills. If you have learned to cast-on, knit, purl, and bind-off, this class is for you. You will learn increases and decreases, alternate cast-ons and work on several small projects for practice. This is truly a skills building class and is the first of several in this series. Saturdays from 1-3 beginning 04/04. $40 for all four classes.

Jane is teaching on Tuesdays the lace/cable inset shell from Debbie Bliss. This is a great classic and will be a wonderful piece to wear all year long. Come in and see the sample Jane made from Cashsoft 4ply. This class will be from 10-12noon on 04/07,04/21, 04/28. $30 for all classes

Then on 04/07 and 04/21, Jane will teach the WATERFALL SCARF. This is our own design and is a great beginners project to experiment with use of multiple yarns. Fun and creative! Come knit with Jane from 1-3pm. $20

Karen will be teaching BASIC SOCKS on Mondays from 10-12noon. If you have perfected your knit, purl, SSK, and picking up stitches, you are ready for sock class. Come join us and increase your skills. We will be working on Magic Loop technique and you will finish your pair of socks with this class. Starting 04/06, we will meet for 4 weeks. $40 for all classes.

On Wednesdays, from 12-4pm we have SIT N STITCH at Strings & Stitches. Come join our great knitting and crochet community, so you can get to know a great group of folks!

As always, yarns and supplies must be purchased at Strings & Stitches Yarn Shoppe for all class projects. You may use your own needles. Paid registration will hold your spot in your class choice. 24 hour notice required for non-attendance with store credit. No refund of class fees for classes you do not attend. Teachers will make arrangements with students for class information and assistance of unattended classes at their discretion.

Strings & Stitches also does private instruction at the hourly rate of $10/hour. If you have a pattern that you have been struggling with or just need help with a project in progress, call and schedule some time with an instructor and receive the help you need to finish your UFO. Must schedule in advance. We also offer crochet education and instruction. Just call to arrange.
