CLASSES


Whether you're a novice or experienced, we offer a full range of knitting and crochet classes and open knitting sessions at Strings & stitches. If you're stuck on a project or looking for new ideas, stop in and see us. Class projects will include knitting, crocheting, garment construction, pattern reading, basic socks, beginning lace, felting, fair isle knitting, entrelac, domino knitting, and so much more! Classes are available days, evenings, and weekends (see schedule), and are updated monthly. To register for a class, pease call us at 706-698-KNIT (5648). Individual instruction is also available, upon request, at our hourly rates of $10.00/hour.

 

Strings & Stitches Yarn Shoppe - October Classes

Can't believe that October is almost upon us, bringing fall and Apple Festival to the North Georgia Mountains in Ellijay.  Color will be abounding and replace the mildew green from all the liquid sunshine that we have received. Yes we are still afloat with no damage from the storms of September.  God is in control, but I must admit that I was questioning His actions when we were reported to have received 20"of rain in a week!!

At S&S, September brought a return of students to classes. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of you during the fall tourist season that we haven't seen, along with the local customers that had taken the summer off. We have missed you all!

As usual, Beginning Knit will be offered on the regular schedule of:  Wednesdays 10:30-12      Kris

Thursdays 5:30-7pm    Karen    

Saturdays 10:30-12        Darlene

Students will learn to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off.  Four classes for $30.

Strings and StitchesDue to the number of classes we have developed and sampled in the shop, we are going to continue the Pick a Project class and give you an opportunity to catch up on something you started or begin a project that you want to do.  Just check in with us and we will schedule the class with an instructor that taught the class, or come to a scheduled time with Karen on Monday afternoons from 2-4pm.  You will receive instruction on your project, as long as it is a project for which you purchased yarn at S&S. $10 for 2 hours per week.  See the list at the end for items you may find interesting.  This will be an on-going class/project available.

Karen will continue to offer basic socks on Mondays 10-12noon. Learn to knit socks on two circulars, magic loop or DPN's.  You must be able to knit, purl, SSK, K2TOG proficiently. Four weeks of classes for $40. Starts 10-05. If you are ready to expand your sock skills, call and setup with Karen what you are interested in doing. She offers toe-up construction, lace and top down construction.

Kris will offer the popular Wrap Me Up Shawl on Thursday mornings 10-12.  This shawl is a great way to increase your skills and learn miters, lace, modular knitting, picking up stitches, three-needle bind off, and edgings.  This pattern is full of wonderful stitches and will keep you inspired to the very end! We have a wide selection of long color repeat yarns from which to choose for this project. So come early for the best selection..  4 classes  $40, starts 10-1.

Kris will be teaching the B4Bag, by popular request, on Thursday afternoons 1-3pm.  This bag is a colorful, or not, felted bag that offers the experience of beading, bumps, bobbles and buttons. Kris has knitted this bag several ways and will inspire you to think outside the "bag" and make this project truly your own. Shop early in order to get the beads at the bead shop to match your yarns.  Come join Kris on 10-8. 3 classes for $30.

Darlene is returning after a month off to take care of an ill family member.  She will begin teaching her surprise sweater jacket for adults and babies.  This is Elizabeth Zimmerman's famous pattern to construct a sweater with only the sleeve/shoulder seams to be done at the end.  Truly a fun knit.  Adult class will be 10-12noon and baby class will be 1-3pm on Saturdays. Will start 10/03.  Please call and re-sign up for class, even if you were enrolled in September.

Class will be $40 and will be 4 classes.  Sign up early, these classes were already half full.

As usual, all patterns and yarns must be purchased at S&S for class projects. Registrations will be good only if classes are paid for at time of registration.  24-hour notification of cancellation is required.  We have teachers that travel from out of town to teach.  Thanks for your consideration! No store credit given on classes unattended and teacher will makeup classes at her discretion.
